If you manage a single holiday home, a small B&B or just a few apartments, you may be able to handle all your bookings without a PMS.
However, this does not mean giving up the possibility of controlling smart devices remotely and automating repetitive tasks.

A PMS is not required to use Smart Controller
When a PMS is connected to Smart Controller, stay information is imported automatically. The system therefore knows the check-in and check-out dates and times and can apply the predefined rules to smart devices.
If you do not use a PMS, Smart Controller works in the same way. The only difference is that you enter the stay dates manually in the NAVOO Console.
From that moment on, Smart Controller uses the information you entered to automatically carry out the planned actions on the smart devices.
For example, you can have the thermostat switch on before guests arrive, lights and sockets switch off after check-out, or selected devices remain off while the accommodation is empty.
What changes is how the booking dates reach the system, not what Smart Controller can do.
What you can do even without a property management system
Automations linked to stay dates are only one part of the available features.
Even without a PMS, you can:
- switch devices on and off and adjust them remotely;
- control lights, sockets, thermostats and air conditioning;
- monitor doors, windows and motion sensors;
- check the status of devices from a smartphone or computer;
- create automatic rules based on the stays you enter;
- view alerts and anomalies in the Console;
- manage multiple rooms, houses or apartments from a single online dashboard.
With Smart Controller, you configure the rules once and they remain ready for every future stay.
When you enter the dates of a new booking, Smart Controller automatically applies the actions you have already configured: it can switch on the thermostat before arrival, turn off lights and sockets after check-out and monitor door and window sensors when the property becomes empty again.
This means you do not have to repeat the same tasks every time, and you can continue to monitor the property remotely, without having to visit each property in person for every check.
What if you decide to use a PMS in the future?
Starting without a property management system is not a permanent choice. If the number of bookings or properties increases and you decide to adopt a PMS, you can connect it to Smart Controller and switch to the automatic import of stay dates.
The rules you have already created will continue to work. Only the way check-in and check-out dates reach Smart Controller will change: you will no longer have to enter them manually, because they will be imported directly from the PMS.
